About Montessori Zimbabwe

The Montessori Zimbabwe education centre is owned and administered by The Montessori Zimbabwe Trust, a non-governmental, registered not-for-profit organisation. This trust was founded by Nicki Pugh and has been established to serve the children of Bulawayo and the community as a whole, and ensure that this facility is forever maintained for the purpose for which it was established.

Our purpose

Our purpose

The purpose of the Montessori Zimbabwe school is very clear. We ensure that all students, regardless of background, or prior achievements, are given the opportunity to gain skills, experiences and qualifications necessary to achieve their full potential. We are a comprehensive, inclusive (slow and fast learners alike have unique special educational needs), community-based centre open to students requiring a more flexible approach to academic work and skill acquisition. Our program is for children from 2 -13 years in age. We provide a small, nurturing environment with a focus on building supportive relationships among students and between students and staff. Classes, as in our younger sections, are fully interactive, interesting and fun. We teach one-on-one for optimum learning and our track record of results is exceptional. The classrooms are fully resourced with Montessori materials and equipment, reading and literacy resources, maps, charts, fossils, historical artefacts and natural science displays. Our resources library is fully stocked with resources needed for teacher presentations and student research and exploration. Our classrooms are our students’ home away from home, and we make them as attractive and comfortable as possible. Our classrooms are carefully prepared to stimulate children’s intellectual development and promote independence.

Our Requirements

Stationery

No stationery or books are required at school as all children are provided for. However, in the senior levels, students will need stationery and exercise books for homework.

School Uniforms

This section provides a textual description of the school sports kit. We do not have a specific uniform for everyday as we believe that children are educated on an individual basis and we encourage their individuality by allowing them to choose their own clothing and hairstyles. However, hairstyles should be comfortable and allow for wearing a broad brimmed sunhat which is required every day.

Sports Kit

Montessori Zimbabwe students that are leaving school premises to go to Girls’ College for sports or an outing must be dressed smartly in their sports kit.

This consists of

  • a school swimming costume,
  • golf shirt,
  • skorts / shorts,
  • school hat, and
  • track suit for cold days.
  • For extra warmth, students are allowed to wear a plain navy blue jersey under their track suit.

All items are available at Femina Garments.

Greystone Montessori Preschool

As for Montessori Zimbabwe, there is no uniform, but children are required to have an apron and sun hat at school every day.
